Shri Krishna Janamashtami is celebrated every year in Shraavana or Bhadrapada month (depending upon the calendar chooses the new moon or full moon day as the last day of the month). According to Gregorian Calendar it appear in either August or September.
Shri Krishna Janamashtami is celebrated as the birth of Krishna, the eight incarnation (Avtar) of Lord Vishnu. Krishna is born in Jail of Kansa to Mata Devaki and Vasudeva. He was 8th son to them.
After the birth of Shri Krishna Vasudeva take Krishna to his friend’s house in Vrindavan. Krishna brought up in Vrindavan by Nanda and Yashoda. Hew was accompanied by Big brother Balram here.
On the auspicious day of Janamashtami, people keep fast, chants devotional song of Krishna and vigil at night. After Krishna’s midnight birth, baby Krishna is washed and placed in cradle for people to get blessings. This is the time when people break their fast by distribute sweets to each other.
Ras Leela is a dance, people do on this day. It is believed that Shri Krishna used to dance with all Gopi’s and Gopala’s and they get Moksha.
